Superhero Party

superhero blog post-p001

Superheroes are a big thing in our house and so it is only fitting that I would create a party for one of my boys with that theme!  This party was so fun to plan but even more fun to enjoy, the kids just loved it!  This party was featured on Amy Atlas, here!

When imagining the cake, I new I wanted something bold and graphic, so instead of fondant I was decided to make ombre sugar dots to mimic the vintage dotted comic design from the party package.  I got my inspiration for these sugar dots here .  The diy tutorial on how to make these was so easy to follow and I think the time to make them was well worth it :)  The graphic cutouts that are available in the party package really made this cake pop!

The invitation is made to look like a vintage comic design, it was a great way to let the guests know what was to come.

The amazing shortbread cookies were created by the talented Evon of Cookievonster and they really added a lot of impact to the party table.

The cupcake fondant toppers were so amazing as well.  They were create by Janderyn of earthandsugar.

The cake pops were created by Carmen of Carmen’s Sweet Creations.  She had a great idea to give them a shimmer in order to resemble spandex and I think it looks absolutely perfect!

The polka dot backdrop is fabric I purchased from IKEA, I also used it in the photo booth area, but in red!

Little Ninja Party

My youngest son Karlo, has been into anything and everything ninja for the past few years, so last year I created a sweet little party to honor his wishes.  I am anxiously waiting to share pictures of the this years superhero party, but waiting for a feature on Amy Atlas Events before I show you all the fabulous details!  So here is Karlo’s 3rd birthday ninja party!

023

One of the main design elements was the ‘rising sun’ and it was used for the cupcake toppers and the birthday banner.

026

I had so much fun making the rice krispy sushi!  It was beyond easy, so yummy and even more…it was so pretty!

035

I used the individually wrapped krispy treats and then cut them out with a sharp knife and circular cookie cutter.  If the cookie cutter or knife got too sticky, I just smeared some butter what I was cutting with and all is well.  Fruit roll ups are used for the seaweed and the red “roe” are sprinkles, but they look very realistic!

057

I found that the red Swedish fish looked and worked best for the sashimi!

016 045

I bought the cake from Safeway :)  then I used the cake bunting and graphic cutout to make it look custom, so simple and cute!

072

Straw flags were used to decorate the fruit and veggies, making them more enticing for those little fingers!

I hope a little ninja master will enjoy this party theme as much as my little Karlo did!

042 051

My older son is now into TMNT, for those who don’t know the acronym, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and his birthday is fast approaching.  Party planning is in full swing for that theme!

Happy Christmas Party

happy christmas cover-p001

I do hope that everyone had a very happy holidays and those who celebrate Christmas, enjoyed their day with family and friends!  Decorating a gingerbread house is a staple holiday activity for me and my boys and so I decided to make a little party of it, I know…so unlike me!  I like to take every opportunity to celebrate and make memories.  This party was recently featured on the Amy Atlas Sweet Designs Blog, insert little happy dance, as it is always an honor for my work to be acknowledged with a party feature~

The focus for this party was on the kiddies so I kept the treats simple and I will share my tips and tricks!

14 1 16

The marshmallow snowmen were put together in minutes…just two large marshmallows, a mini Oreo Cakester, some edible ink and a little ribbon!  Inspiration for the snowmen can be found here.

15

Peppermint and white chocolate is a match made in heaven!  These are so yummy and too easy to make.  Just take two mini candy canes and join them to make a heart, then zap some white chocolate wafers in the microwave 30 seconds at a time and when just warm enough to melt all the wafers, pour with a spoon to fill the heart centers.  I like to put these on wax or parchment paper so they can peel off nice and easy.

3

I found the adorable reindeer cupcake holder at Winners, HomeGoods for my American friends.

18 21 22 19

This was the table setup for the little elf decorators!  They each had a house (assembled ahead of time), candies to decorate and a favor pillow with treats!

23

This cute wish list and letter to Santa is included in the party package as well!

24 25 26 27

Nimble little fingers were hard at work!

28

My youngest Karlo would frost, place the candy and then immediately proceed to eating the candy!  He’s a sugar junkie…like his momma!!

I hope you enjoyed our little gingerbread party and I have left you with some cut photo prop pics!  Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

Vintage Lace Cowgirl Party

cowgirl cover-p001 Yee Haw! This party was designed and styled for my niece Mia’s 4th birthday.  Our inspiration was vintage lace and some good ol’ sweet southern charm.  All things girly and oh course, pink were welcome for this sweet lil cowgirl shindig!

submission (1) submission (3)

The pink ombre cake was a new learning experience for my sister and me.  We baked three layers of cake and added more food coloring with each layer.  At first, I thought we could achieve the look the natural way by using pureed strawberries, but we soon realized that we would have to crack open the dye.  The rosette frosting, although not perfect, I think it adds to that sweet ‘handmade by mommy’ look.  Please note, you will be needing lots of frosting if you want to create those pretty rosettes!

submission (16) submission (12)

These gorgeous hand iced lace sugar cookies were created by the fabulously talented Evon, of Cookievonster.  She always amazes me with her fabulous talent!

submission (19) submission (18)24

I have come to love spray paint after styling this party. We purchased the little horse figurines at the dollar store and decided to make them gold along with some buttons so to add a shine to the dessert table. One gold horse was used for the cake topper to our pink ombre cake.

We wanted this the backdrop to be sweet and whimsical so we opted to create it of ribbon and lace. submission (5)

So many lovely details worked together to create our rustic, yet modern cowgirl party; lace doilies, natural burlap, velvet, satin and leather ribbons.  But, the sweetest of all was the little cowgirl princess.  Happy Birthday beautiful!

Trick or Treat 2012

halloween 2012 cover-p001 I hope everyone had a Happy Halloween.  We are from Westcoast Canada and well, it was a very wet Halloween, but fun nonetheless.  I wanted to setup a small sweets table (and display my free 2012 Halloween banner) for the kiddos before their trick or treating.  I chose to stay with a black and white color scheme with pops of color here and there.

IMG_1712 IMG_1726

I found these really cute spider cupcake holders at HomeSense (HomeGoods).  They were just too cute to pass up!

IMG_1717

I also found these sparkly Halloween themed stickers at Michael’s just a few days before the big day and decided to make them the cupcake toppers.

IMG_1709

The one treat that I did get around to making were these mummy pretzel sticks.  They were so easy…these mummies were yummy!

You can download this banner in the freebie section, just right click and save to your computer and you can have a head start to next years decorations.

All the best!

Aloha Hawaiian Luau Party

luau blog post-p001In thinking about posting my niece’s 4th Vintage Cowgirl Birthday party that happened last month, I remembered that I hadn’t yet posted her 3rd Birthday Hawaiian Luau.  Custom designed with my spunky and adorable Mia in mind, the collection is bright and happy and the hibiscus flower as the main design!

luau 1

We assembled the grass cake skirt and it set the tone for the luau candy table.  We hot glue gunned the raffia grass skirt, ribbon and pom poms to a dark wood charger.  It was then placed on a high cake stand…fun and cute!

luau 2 luau 3

Bright and colourful candy kabobs were a quick favourite!  I recommend making these the day of and laying them flat until your guests arrive as the candy will fall the longer gravity has its way!  Also in hindsight, I would use extra long lollipop sticks because they are safer for the kids to be walking around with.

luau 11 luau 12

Birthday girl Mia, welcomed each of her guests with a a friendly ‘aloha’ and a festive lei.  She also send them home with a ‘mahalo’ treat bag to fill with all the party sweets!

luau 22 luau 16luau 15 luau 14

The beautiful cookies were created by Tara of Bambella Cookie Boutique.

luau 4 luau 17 luau 5luau 6

A fun activity was the Postcard Photo booth, where the kids could dress up and play with the many props provided.

Back to School

hback to school cover-p001Back to School…this phrase has been a constant for me for most of my life.  Many may not know, but I am was an elementary school teacher.  I do take a few substitute days here and there as I still enjoy the bustle of classroom life and I am not quite ready to give it up entirely.  With my own son entering Kindergarten this year, I have a whole new perspective and feel like the nervous momma bear letting her little cub venture off on his own for the first time.  I know he is excited and eager and well, I am too…just a little sad that he won’t be tugging at my arm at any point in the day to let me know he loves me or that his brother ‘touched him.’

When I created this party package, I was inspired by bright bold colors and cute craft projects.  This theme is young at heart, but it can still please an adult eye with its clean graphic patterns.  It is the ‘I heart School’ Back to school pack, and pardon my pun but it is ‘chalk’ full of fun ideas!

2 3 2

I had some super cute apple cake pops made up by Carmen of Carmen’s Sweet Creations.   They tasted as yummy as they looked!

5 6

C is for Cookies and wow did Evon of Cookievonster create some beautiful back to school edible cookie-art!  There were so many wonderful details to the designs that I just couldn’t bring myself to eat any…well, maybe just one…ok, ok two!

3 18 19

There are some cute take to school printables;  ‘you are so sharp’ would be a great holiday gift for the teacher and/or boys and girls in the class, ‘you are one smart cookie’ is nice to send off in your kiddos lunch kit for the first day of school!

16 12 17 13

Two bookplate designs are great to make sure your child comes home with their books each day, but they can also be used at home for books in the family library too!

11

The party package has A-Z and 1-10 Flashcards,  Preschool to Grade 12 mini pennants, toppers, tags, mini notes to teacher and friends and so much more.  It will have more uses than just the decor for the party you will have, possibilities are as endless as your imagination.  Have fun with it and make it your own!

4 8 9 10 20

Taking pictures of the kids after they have enjoyed the party can be challenging at best.  They are on a blissful sugar high and have no desire to sit and pose, but yes we try anyway.  Here are some funny snapshots of what would seem to be a simple picture!

21 22

I hope all of you and your lil kiddies have a great back to school start to the year ahead.  Be sure to pick up this fun and sweet I heart School package to celebrate this special time!

Vintage Ice Cream Parlour Wedding Table

ice cream blog post-p001

With soft pastels and a punch of red, I created a custom vintage Ice Cream Parlour for my brother in law and his new wife.  I used their initials and called it ‘T&T Original Ice Cream Parlour.’  It was a smash hit with the guests, young and old alike!

1

There were so many personalized details that I worked into this party package design.  These waffle cone sleeves added such a sweet touch and really worked to pull the parlour theme together.

3

I found these adorable syrup jars at the local supermarket and knew that they would look great all dressed up with my food labels…and not to mention, they helped keep the table clean!

2 6

I designed several different style food labels, but my favorite were these straw flag tags.  I used some pretty pastel pink striped straws and glued a mini white jawbreaker to the top to add a finished look.  They looked absolutely fabulous darling ~

7 - Copy 8

The ice cream table worked as a great photo opportunity for Megan Edelman Photograhy to take some very sweet ring pictures!

9 10 11 12 13

The wrappers and cupcake toppers were all coordinated and personalized with the custom monogram logo.  The banner attached to the front of the table also read ‘Love is Sweet.’

14 15

Upon the announcement that the Ice Cream Bar had opened, a flood of guests came hurriedly to create their own special treat!

19 18 17 16 7 4

And so it was, especially for my boys, a dreamy table of colorful and tasty treats. A retro vintage ice cream parlour that will not soon be forgotten!

Wishing T+T a lifetime of

Love, Laughter and Happily Ever Afters!
